Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Commonly Asked Questions

Q.  What is the best time of year to book a fishing charter with Water Waltz Charters?

A.  It depends upon the species of fish you desire.  Different months are better than others for certain types of fish.  Coho salmon are typically caught in early spring (April - May).  In late May through June, you can catch all species - Kings, Coho, Brown Trout and some Steelhead - they will be smaller, but will have a ferocious appetite.  In July, two species of Steelhead are typically caught.  Steelhead are the fun fighting fish, more out of the water than in it when hooked.  August and early September usually yield the largest fish that keep the reels screaming - normally Kings, Lake Trout and Steelhead.

Q.  What time of day is best to go fishing?

A.  Typically morning and evening are the best times to catch fish, but they can be caught all day long.

Q.  What should I bring on my fishing charter?

A.  Bring snacks, lunch and beverages.  You will also want to record your day on the lake with either a camera or a video camera.  To take home your catch, bring along a cooler filled with ice.  Finally, be prepared for any type of weather by bringing sunscreen, warm clothing and rain gear- the weather is unpredictable and the air temperature on the lake is generally ten degrees cooler than what it is on land.

Q.  What should I bring on my sunset cruise?

A.  The air temperature dips even further at night, so dress in layers.  Make lasting memories with a camera or video recorder.  Complimentary beverage and fruit or cheese will be provided, but you are welcome to bring a beverage or food of your choice.

Q.  Will I need a fishing license?

A.  Persons 16 or older must purchase an all species fishing license - either daily or yearly - at the local sporting goods store.  Children under 16 are not required to purchase a license.

Q.  Will I get seasick?

A.  It’s possible to experience seasickness on the lake, especially if you are prone to getting seasick or carsick.  Taking Dramamine a half hour before boarding the boat may help ward off or alleviate sickness.  Also, get a good’s night rest and stay away from greasy food in the morning.

Q.  What time should I arrive at the boat?

A.  The boat leaves the dock 15 minutes prior to the charter start time.  So, if you booked a morning charter that starts at 7:00 a.m.,  the boat will depart at 6:45.  Arriving a half hour before the scheduled charter time is a good rule of thumb to follow.  See charter fishing times and sunset cruise times.

Q.  Are alcoholic beverages allowed?

A.  Responsible drinking is allowed.  If, however, someone becomes inebriated and presents a danger to self or crew, all alcoholic beverages will be banned.

Q.  How many people can go on the boat?

A.  Up to 6 persons, but if your party is larger than six persons, arrangements can be made for multiple boats to accommodate them.  The fee for the additional boat(s) would be the same as the Water Waltz fee.

Q.  Can my children come along?

A.  Children are welcome.  To ensure a safe, successful and enjoyable day of fishing for you and your child, please keep in mind children are more susceptible to boredom and seasickness, and for their safety, must be under the supervision of an adult at all times.

Q.  What happens if the weather is bad?

A.  The weather is watched closely.  On the day of your charter, if severe weather is predicted the excursion will be delayed up to an hour (commencing only if wind and waves are favorable) or  rescheduled.  If a storm develops during the charter, shelter will be sought and the charter will either be rescheduled or prorated depending upon how much time remains in the charter.

Q.  Are gift certificates available?

A.  Yes!  Fishing charters and sunset cruises make wonderful gifts for anniversaries, weddings, birthday, proms and more!  They are also a perfect opportunity to propose in a romantic setting.  Some people have even purchased a charter or cruise and donated it as a charity fund raiser.  Ask Captain Ed about purchasing a gift certificate.
